for accomplished people
facing the question of AI
Coaching · Creation · Craft

The future isn’t asking you
to become someone else.

You’ve spent years establishing yourself, your own thing, a style, standards, a reputation. Now everyone is talking about artificial intelligence as though the rules changed overnight, and the loudest voices are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

You may deplore the AI industry and everything about how it carries itself, and still wonder what you’re missing in this much-hyped tool. That isn’t confusion. Both can be valid. There’s the industry selling it, and there’s the thing itself, and they are not the same. Distrust of the salesman is not a verdict on the goods. It’s the reason to look and judge for yourself. Holding a hard opinion and an open question at the same time is an act of discernment, the very faculty this new normal will actually reward. Discernment is becoming the whole game, because this thing amplifies whatever you bring to it, including bad judgment.

You don’t need to pick a side. You need the space and a few uninterrupted hours to see what the thing is and what it might make possible for you. Then, the informed choice is yours.

I’m Matthew Curran. A professional opera singer for twenty-five years, a trained life coach, and an AI craftsman. As I began to truly understand how to use this new technology, something clicked, as if my future had changed in an instant. What is now possible has changed. Used with clarity and discernment, it magnifies your intention and effort, and complements your capabilities and capacity. I’ve chosen the moniker AI craftsman for my own work, as I refine and sharpen my skills, always mindful of the details. In this context, however, I am more a thought-partner, unattached to the outcome, because the outcome is yours. My intention is to advocate, not evangelize.

I work with accomplished people standing at a crossroads they didn’t schedule, on questions that are as personal as they are practical. How do I stay current without becoming someone I don’t respect? What deserves my attention and what deserves my skepticism? What do I want the next chapter to look like? How the hell do I get this thing to do something useful?

Sometimes AI is part of the conversation. Sometimes it is the conversation. Sometimes it never comes up. Your call.

Free, 25 minutes, no judgment, no pitch.

Where you are

You're not behind.

Everything got faster. Except time. Take it.

It isn’t a race, whatever the headlines suggest. Almost everyone is still working it out, including the industry leaders and lawmakers, who continue to speak past each other while throwing around dumbfounding sums of money. Developments seem to come ever-faster. But good thinking still takes the time it takes, and good work takes focused attention.

If you’re an artist or a creator of any kind, and something about using this tool feels wrong to you, I would rather have that conversation than steer around it. I’ve had it with myself and it is ongoing. Where I’ve landed so far: the thing does nothing remarkable on its own. You make it go. Clarity is what moves it forward, and the craft is in the restraint. Restraint is important in this arena, because this thing amplifies whatever you bring to it, including a lack of discernment. Excess, fluff, and clutter appear with little to no effort.

Then there’s the time it takes to learn to use AI, which is the real obstacle for many. Three free weekends they don’t have, and a suspicion that three wouldn’t be enough anyway. But basic fluency is attainable in a few well-focused hours with proper guidance. You’ll begin to notice a new lane for a different kind of creativity materializing, and gradually discover potential uses for it that are specific to you. The goal is not to become an AI person or use it to the absolute fullest extent possible. It’s to continue becoming more fully yourself while the ground moves beneath us.

As this technology gradually finds its footing in our culture, the differentiator won’t be access to the tools. Everyone will have the same tools. It will be having something of your own to point them at: your discernment, your standards, your decades of knowing what good looks like. That part can’t be copied. You are your own moat.

How we work

You leave with something you can use.

You, me, and AI at the ready.

Coaching, with AI in the room

Focused work on whatever’s on your mind, with AI at the ready. Examine your relationship to it, learn by doing, and put it to work on your real life and projects.

Classic life coaching

The tried and true, no technology on the agenda. Your pursuits, my full support and attention.

AI Learning

Not coaching, a lesson. What it is, how it works, and how to make it genuinely useful, at your pace. Plainspoken, hands-on, and yours to carry forward.

For most people AI is the occasion rather than the subject. I’m a thought-partner who works with the technology in the room, and discernment is what I’m actually modeling. We discuss it, you practice it, and you’ll begin to see how what you produce is uniquely yours, because nobody else would have made all those calls.

You don’t need a technical background. For those who need a proper introduction to AI, I can provide that. You don’t even need to know how to describe what you want. You need to know what’s on your mind, and a willingness. We can work from there, however you prefer. You decide the framing and the nature of what we do together. And if you’d rather leave the technology out of it entirely, we log off and work as people always have.

Impressions

In clients' own words

Five months ago the thought of having a life coach never occurred to me. But week by week I started to notice changes in the way I think and look at life. I've gained useful insight and necessary tools for dealing with changes in life and all the obstacles it presents.Christopher · coaching client
What I appreciated the most is that I immediately felt I could trust Matt, and he has not disappointed me. He was very much present with me in the sessions, and he was a good support to lean into when I was facing problems. Matt takes coaching seriously.Maria · coaching client

Why you can trust the work

It is what it is

I am transparent about my process. AI used surgically, with intention and detail, and a human name on everything that leaves the workshop. The craft is in the restraint.

I work and coach with AI as a valuable resource and tool, directed, shaped, and judged by me from the first question to the final line. The judgment is mine, and so is the accountability. No two people produce the same thing with this tool; what comes out is shaped by the questions asked, the context given, and the judgment applied from the first prompt to the final call. Increasingly, that is the skill. Discernment. Which is what I foster in my work.

About

The singer who built this

Matthew Curran is a professional opera singer, trained life coach, and AI craftsman. A graduate of the prestigious Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with a Master of Music, and a graduate of Accomplishment Coaching, an ICF accredited, year-long intensive coach training program. At a time when a freelance opera career in this country is financially less and less sensible, and one of the most disruptive technologies in the history of the world emerging, after developing AI fluency and skill, it became apparent that this is the moment his coach training has been waiting for.

Possessing a powerful and beautifully lyrical bass, Mr. Curran has worked for 25 years as a professional singer in opera, concert, choral work (Grammy-nominated), and song, performing throughout the United States, Europe, and even Tokyo, Dubai, and New Delhi. Decades performing alongside some of the world’s most gifted artists gave him exacting standards, the same standards he now brings to his work with Curran Crafts.

No coding background, no engineering pedigree, which is not a disclaimer, but rather evidence. If a career opera singer with no significant training in tech and no coding skills can make AI sing and dance, so can you.
